North American racing is one of the largest horse racing markets globally by volume: over 50,000 races annually across the USA and Canada, spanning flat racing, quarter horse racing and harness racing. For data engineers, it is also one of the most fragmented — coverage is split across multiple regulators, track associations, data providers and state racing commissions, each with their own reporting standards.

HRDB’s USA and Canada racing data product is in active development. Our target is to provide the same structural quality as our existing HK and UK datasets: normalised entity tables, consistent going/distance encoding, relational foreign keys between races and runners, and daily update delivery via API and bulk export.
Planned Coverage
- USA Thoroughbred — Major tracks including Churchill Downs, Santa Anita, Belmont, Saratoga
- Canada — Woodbine and regional tracks
- Standardbred / Harness — Under evaluation for a later phase
